Minas de Alquife

Minas de Alquife (MdA) is a brownfield iron ore project planning to recommence operations in the near future, with the ability to produce a low alumina iron ore in Alquife, Southern Spain, for the next decades. The project is currently in a pre-operational phase and preparing direct shipping ore trial cargoes for steel mills in Europe. The first cargo has been ordered for testing and will leave Spain’s shores in the summer. At the same time the team is finalising beneficiation processes, optimising mine engineering, logistics and generally preparing a restart of the mining operations, which have a long history in Andalucia.

MdA has been granted all necessary permits for its current phase and is expecting to complete operational readiness in 2019/2020. Until its closure in 1996 MdA has been a major supplier of iron ore to European steel mills and the company is planning to restore its position in the market. However, the iron ore industry and global market has changed, which is driving the company to produce a product and run an operation, that is not only economically more sustainable, but also environmentally more sustainable. MdA aims to produce less tonnage, but higher quality, which will be beneficial for the region as a whole and all affected parties - inside and outside of the Minas de Alquife.

MdA will start communicating and releasing news about its progress on a periodical level, mainly through updating this website, which will be completed in due course.

Thank you for visiting and please come back soon.
